The victim of Unnao rape case, an incident that happened in
June 2017, has still not received justice. One of the main accused BJP leader
Kuldeep Singh Sengar still roams around free in spite of
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) having looked into the case. In a
shocking incident, the victim met with an accident on Sunday when the car
which she was travelling in was hit by a truck of which the number plates
were blackened and erased. Though the girl’s condition is reportedly
stable, opposition party leaders are adamant on sending her to New Delhi for
further treatment. The BJP has been widely criticised for not taking any
action in the case.

The victim’s father had died in judicial custody some time back, and she is
currently living with her mother. Now, the victim’s two aunties who were
also travelling along with her in the car are dead and her lawyer is
seriously injured. Another witness in the rape case was murdered in 2018. All
fingers are now pointing at BJP leader and main accused Sengar. But the Uttar
Pradesh police have ruled out foul play and said that the incident was just
an accident. At the same time, state police have sent a request to the CBI to
probe into the accident. This request is yet to be approved by the central
government.
Victim’s mother said that the accident was aimed at killing the victim, eye
witness and her lawyer together.

Anand Ranganathan.
