Karnataka boy felicitated for bravery

Monsoon has created havoc across the country this year. Some of the worst hit
areas include Assam, Kerala, Northern Karnataka, Maharashtra and Bihar. But
even during this natural disaster, there were many incidents of humanity
shown towards both humans and animals. One such incident that had gone viral
on social media happened at Raichur in Karnataka. In a video that is still
doing the rounds, a 12 year old boy can be seen guiding an ambulance in the
flood hit Hirerayanakumpi village. Identified as
Venkatesh, this young brave heart was felicitated on 15
August by the Raichur Deputy Commissioner for his humane
act. As the young hero entered the dais to collect his award, there were loud
cheers for him from the crowd who was gathered.

In the video, Venkatesh can be seen running in front of the ambulance while
the bridge was completely under water. The ambulance was carrying six
children and a woman’s dead body from a flood affected area. Venkatesh was
playing on the banks of the river when he saw the ambulance driver struggling
to get through the rough waters. Reportedly, he approached Venkatesh for help
who did not have to think twice before guiding him.

Venkatesh is a class 6 student at a local government school in the village.
Social media was flooded with congratulatory messages for him.

“God bless the young boy who took ambulance to safety in flooded waters”,
tweeted Sourabh Mathur.

“A 12-year-old-boy in Karnataka risked his life to guide an ambulance through
a flooded bridge. The government will give him a bravery award, but can
public-spirited industrialists like ⁦@anandmahindra⁩ give him a new life?”,
tweeted Gautam Machaiah.
