The situation is expected to get back to normal in Jammu and
Kashmir in the coming days. Curfew was lifted yesterday for some
time to let the people take part in the Friday prayers.
Jammu and Kashmir has been under a lock down for security reasons after the
revocation of Article 370 by the central government. Phone
services and internet that had been blocked earlier were partially restored
in parts of the valley.
As per reports, the doors of the main mosque in Srinagar,
the Jama Masjid were not opened, however, prayers were held
in smaller mosques while thousands of security personnel remained deployed
across the state to ensure law and order.
In his address to the nation, PM Narendra Modi said on
Thursday, “People won’t face any difficulty in celebrating Eid.
Schools have reopened in Kathua yesterday. People have been
flying into Srinagar to be with their families on Eid.
“The government is providing every possible help to our friends who live
outside Jammu and Kashmir and want to go back for Eid,” PM Modi said.
Around 400 local politicians of J&K remain in custody as a precautionary
step. CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury and CPI
leader D Raja who had flown to J&K were detained at the Srinagar
airport yesterday and denied entry into the city.
CPIM party tweeted,” .@SitaramYechury has being detained
at Srinagar Airport and not allowed to move anywhere. This despite the fact
that he had informed the administration about his visit to meet CPIM MLA MY
Tarigami who is not well & other party workers. We strongly protest this
illegal detention.”
